Subtotal (supracervical) hysterectomy was initially proposed with the expectation that it might enhance sexual functioning after hysterectomy, it has been postulated that eradicating the cervix causes extreme neurologic and anatomic disruption, thus resulting in vaginal shortening, vaginal vault prolapse, and vaginal cuff granulations.
